About Erin
Hello!
I'm Erin, a photographer based in Westchester County, New York. Taking photos of other people is one of my favorite things to do.
Why do I love photography?
The short version: I look for beauty in the world, and the camera is my window; I love to create, and the camera is my paint brush.
If you're in a reading mood and would like to know the long version, please feel free to keep on going:
I love to create. Ever since I could hold a pencil, I've been drawing pictures and doodles. I used to write my own stories, and I occasionally try my pen at a short story or poem these days. I enjoy knitting scarves and weaving blankets. I get excited about theatre and all that goes into creating something magical out of words in a script. I appreciate colors and textures and light.
When I got my first little power shot camera as a kid, I fell in love with creating in a new way. I realized that I could look at a tiny flower and use my camera angle to make it look 10 feet high. Or, I could make the sun look like it was setting upside down in a dew drop. I could go on a search for beautiful things and make little works of art (well, that's what I thought anyway) simply by isolating perspectives and changing settings on a camera.
When I graduated high school, my parents gifted me with my first DSLR camera, and my obsession with close up nature shots evolved into taking pictures of friends and family. I discovered that I loved photographing human beings even more than inanimate objects. Why? Because, just like with flowers and dew drops, there is so much to see - so many perspectives, with or without actually posing the subject myself. Specific to people, though, was emotion. And meaningful moments in time. And getting to capture the way someone looks now, which will be different in 10 years. There are so many layers to making photos not only pleasing to the eye, but meaningful to myself and to the subjects.
And I find that ever so rewarding.
If that wasn't enough, and you're still reading, hats off to you. As a reward for your dedication to understanding me, here are some random facts about yours truly.
-I was born in Indiana and spent most of my years in Montgomery County, Pennsylvania. In 2016 I got married to a pretty cool guy and we moved to New York City. We started in Queens, moved to Brooklyn, and now we are in upstate New York. In 2021 we had our first and pretty cool baby (actually, she is extremely cool). In 2023 we had our second baby who is also turning out to be very cool, but now the word is losing its meaning.
-"ELB" are my maiden initials.
-I love dogs. The best dog, hands down, is my family dog. Jim Hawkins. He is a cockapoo and he lives in Pennsylvania with my parents.
-Traveling is one of my favorite things ever and I wish I could do it more! But I feel very blessed to have been where I've been so far. In chronological order, here are the interesting places I've been to: Dominican Republic, Alaska, China, Japan, Morocco, England, France, The Netherlands, Germany, Scotland, Ireland, and The Bahamas.
-I think coffee is one of God's greatest gifts to the earth.
Thanks for reading!
